1st Grade Monoprints

For this lesson, students completed a warm and cool color watercolor design with a wet on wet technique and added salt for texture at the end. Next class, they practiced drawing a sea animal and then were given black paint. Technique: Paint a line, fold your paper and press...open it up...paint a line on the same side, fold your paper and press.

1st -O'Keeffe Flowers

Students practiced drawing their flower BIG, "falling off the page, BIG". Then they were introduced to mixing tints of a single color. They were asked to show at least three values of their color. They used watercolor to paint their complementary to their flower color. Oil pastel was used to create an added border or frame.

* Sorry about the flower that looks a little off - centered at the top. *

Build your own PLAYGROUND!

1st graders created their background first using crayon. We discussed horizon line, clouds, putting the sun some where else besides the corner, collage and geometric vs. organic shapes.

Students picked out their own colors of
construction paper, cut out their shapes and began constructing their fabulous playgrounds.

Changing Directions with LINES!

Students learned about different types of lines and using their imagination.

We used line printing
tools to create an imaginary place that they would love to go.

I'm not sure how I want to finish this project. Here is a finished example from last year.
